You aren't looking at the proper part of the clip that differentiates the black clip from the white one. Look at the location of the retaining arms on each clip, you can see that the arms on the black clip sit about 2mm lower. The top of the clip is irrelevant with regard to how high the trim sits as it has nothing to do with holding the trim in place. Here's an illustration. In the picture below, the top line indicates the 2 arms that extend out from the clip to hold the inside of the trim lip. There are 2 of these arms on each side to hold each side of the trim. As you can see, the arms on the black clip are a good bit lower than the arms on the white clip. The only way to replicate the level of the arms on the black clip using a white clip is to space the trim piece down by placing something in between the clip arms and the trim. Hence my suggestion to use electrical wire, which is easy to feed down the channel of the trim piece under the arms of the white clip. This provides about the same amount of spacing as the black clip. The bottom of the clip will stay the same on either one as they both fit into the same white clip chassis, which are identical on both styles of clips. Only the black portion of the clip assembly is different. I hope this makes sense and clarifies any confusion.
